안녕히 가세요. Annyonghi Kasayo.(Good bye to the person leaving)

Hello! : )

Wednesday was our last day and closing ceremony for Jeonnam group. Over the past 6 days and 5 nights we stayed at Gwangju, Jeonnam. Gwangju is one of the major cities in our province. Throughout the entire week of training, we were given opportunities to present our lesson plans with a Korean TaLK Scholar. After saying our goodbyes to our TaLK scholars who we’ve gotten to know over the past month. We were picked up by either our mentor teachers, vice principal, and principal. After closing ceremony, my mentor teacher Mhin ‘선생님’ (seon-saeng-nim), a female teacher in her 60s. She’s Catholic and practices it. She is realy sweet and has a servant’s heart. I can see that there’s so much joy in her life and God seems to be first in her life. After driving for two hours from Gwangju to Haenam, we got to meet the vice principal and a few teachers. The school also provided me with school housing fully furnished with tv/bed/closet/rice cooker/blender/internet.

Thursday- we had our day off (Korean holiday), I got sick for the entire day with a cold. I could barely move or walk to make food. I went over to my mentor teacher’s school dormitories and she came over to make me lunch. I am blown away by the amount of love and care she has given me. I slept the entire day after lunch and woke up feeling much better.

Friday- today I attended a staff meeting at 9am. I had no idea what they were saying but all I needed to know is to be there. Afterwards I got to visit my own English classroom with internet! The classroom is pretty nice. : ) (Pictures will be posted up later!)  My mentor teacher will be coteaching with me during my official work hours and I will be in her class all of next week to get a feel of what it is like to teach in an Korean classroom! I’m super stoked to teach and be in a classroom! After visiting my class, at 10am I headed over to the small gymnasium for opening ceremony. My school currently has a total of 50 something students and approximately 20 staff/faculty. Rural schools have decreased in size because families move to live in bigger cities. During lunchtime the school staffers went out for Korean BBQ- Samgyupsal 삼겹살 aka the healthy type of bacon. It was sooo good! : ) I went back to my room and my mentor teacher took me out to get calcium pills because Korean doesn’t sell soymilk, recharged/reloaded my prepay phone, and showed how to get around (bus systems, post office, police station, bank).

I feel like God is with me every single step of the way. Everything in Korea is still very foreign to me. God is constantly providing me with everything I need.

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and give himself for me.”

Galatians 2:20
